Natural Wear and Tear (Excluded from Lifetime Assurance)
All fine jewelry, particularly rings, can succumb to natural wear and the rigors of daily life. Our production assurance doesn't encompass any damage inflicted on the jewelry, loss of stones due to mishaps, improper handling, abusive use, theft, or damages attributed to regular wear and tear.
Common jewelry concerns that wouldn't be categorized as production anomalies include:
- Dings, roughness, and scrapes on the settings. Metals, being ductile, will inevitably show wear marks over time. We advise scheduling an annual jewelry evaluation where a professional can ensure your stone settings are intact. After a professional cleaning and polish, your ring will regain its original luster.
- Chips, scratches, fissures, and fractures on the gemstones due to wear and tear or accidents. While diamonds and moissanite are among the hardest gemstones known to man, they are not impervious. A gemstone can chip or crack if struck or bumped at a specific angle. Regardless of impact strength, a gemstone is notably vulnerable to breaking when hit along its weakest area (usually the edges or girdle). Gemstones with exposed edges, such as those in prong settings, are at higher risk of damage.
- Pits and cavities in your setting caused by exposure to corrosive substances like chlorine bleach, heavy-duty cleaning products.
- Discoloration of precious metals due to chemicals, cosmetics, exposure to chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs, or bathing.
- Precious metals (notably claws and bands) can wear down over time and may require refurbishment as part of normal wear.
- Prongs that become snagged, bent, or worn down by everyday wear and subsequently allow a stone to become dislodged.
- The loss of a gemstone due to damage from daily wear or from other types of damage.
- Our Lifetime Assurance is valid only with proof of purchase and provided the jewelry has remained unmodified.
